One of my New Year's resolutions is to take a lot more black-and-white character portraits (which I adjust in the "Dramatic Black & White" phone app), then post them here at Pixelfed (and repost to mastodon.social/@jasonpettus). The kitchen of our 20-person co-op is just like a cafe, in that most of the people in the house during the day tend to congregate in the kitchen between 11 and 12, to all make lunch at around the same time. It can be annoying if you let it, but this happy chaos is also one of the big reasons to live in a co-op in the first place, because the house's common spaces are always lively and active. There are people in our kitchen literally from 7 in the morning to 2 o'clock the next morning, as first the early birds take over the space, then the lunch crowd, then the WFHers, then all of us for dinner, the majority of whom then hang around for gaming, drinking or discussions, then finally capped by the younger people just getting back from their late-night revelries.

#commonspace I am carrying out research on the benefits of having shared public space #commons where people live and work. I welcome receiving from you, the names of authors, books and/or articles that may be relevant to this subject matter. Many thanks

A periodic reminder that however cool they are, WE DO NOT NEED FLYING CARS.

We've previously sacrificed the #commonspace in front of our houses and businesses for the 'convenience' and promised 'freedom' of cars. See where that has left us!

Why would we willingly surrender the space, and air, above our heads to more vehicles!?

If you find yourself wondering about when we will *finally* get a #flyingcar, instead be grateful they've yet to arrive.

Colette Walker: A new approach to public infrastructure? Start by making buildings accessible

https://www.commonspace.scot/articles/12960/colette-walker-new-approach-public-infrastructure-start-making-buildings-accessible

"In conclusion I urge Scotland’s future SNIC to build indoor/outdoor spaces to be of high accessibility for all. This practice will benefit society and the economy; more users means more economic growth in our business.

Inclusion for all isn’t rocket science, it just takes a little consideration and respect. Let Scotland lead the way in accessibility for all."

Colette Walker: A new approach to public infrastructure? Start by making buildings accessible

Colette Walker, Women for Indy national committee member and a disabled woman and carer to disabled young adult, explains the broad scope of things that make up accessible buildings, and how the proposal for a new approach to building schools and hospitals through a Scottish National Infrastructure Company should have accessibility at the top of its priorities WHEN we hear the word ‘accessibility’ I would guess that the majority of people would think about wheelchair users.
