I started to call my #commonplacebook with another name, with a spanish word that I tried to create for this specific hobby. Sofiario (Sophiary), is just that I ofyen think that english speaking communities when discovered by spanish speaking people we often *import* the english words instead to make the hobby more accesible.

The way my native languahe is so pivotal in my cognitive process to connect with my hobbies is reflected with this desicion.

The fun of english is its flexibility to create new words, spanish is more hard to do it but not impossible so if sofiario is not your cup of tea, you can always create more word variations; Compipedia. Idk.

Filing Index Cards with a C-Line Document Sorter

Not surprisingly, I don't always file away my index cards as quickly as I probably ought to. Every now and then I go through my deck of unfiled cards and try to sort them into my card index/zettelkasten. The end of the year seems like a pretty good time to clear the decks. Because I haven't documented some of this portion of my process before, I thought I'd take a few photos of my C-Line document sorter which I use to do a fast sort of cards before filing into my card index. I bought it a […]

Commonplace book: not entirely AI

There's been a lot of AI in the air, and that is reflected in this collection; at least the bits connecting with other worlds (etiquette, na...

Today was new ink day!

I've been using my purple & black ink for a VERY long time, so I decided to branch out. I got Diamine inks Ancient Copper, and Diamine inks Green/Black. LOVE the green/black (inked up a st. dupont, F nib) and I think I would love the ancient copper - but I inked up an EF pilot (extra fine), and EF is just not the pen for me which is hindering my enjoyment.

Also what the hell the Lamy Safari drinks ink faster than I've ever seen.

Might be interesting to #pkm folks, even if only as a historical curiosity

#commonplacebook #commonplacing

On the topic of #pkm I think there is so much overlap in the concepts (maybe not the execution of) of related techniques. There are personal knowledge bases, second brains, commonplace books, digital gardens, zettelkastens, bullet journals, etc. Obviously the marketplace of ideas is saturated on this topic because we live in an age of information overload and need some way to handle it. I just find it interesting that so many different terms and methods exist for handling the same problem.

I personally use a digital tool to collect up my thoughts (and those of others), and there is something cathartic about organizing, tagging, and linking it all together. I'm hoping it will help me develop ideas and see connections I hadn't considered before. Of course there is a risk of wasting time creating a personal wiki, and I think the real purpose of these systems is to develop intellectually and contribute back whether that is in writing or some other fashion.

Commonplace books maybe never really went away, they just took a different form.

“If you keep hundreds of ideas at your fingertips that you’ve collected over decades… you get an unbelievable amount of inspiration from just randomly looking at 25 of those ideas every now and again and thinking to yourself, is there a way they work together in a new and interesting way?”
