I guess I'm just an average Gen X old guy now. I was a weirdo way before it was cool.

Using Manjaro and Artix. Both are really great. Artix is a healthy systemd-free distro, so I’m slowly migrating everything to it. Manjaro just works, is stable, reliable, updates never break my system, their tools are very handy (Pamac GUI is the best software manager I’ve used in 21 years of Linux, with Synaptic). I only installed Manjaro once 7 years ago, and ever since I’ve had that install copied on several partitions with success and reliability. The day I move away from systemd entirely (it’s a matter of when, not if), I’ll regret Manjaro deeply. Artix is pretty damn good though, so I’m also looking forward to it.

Well I'm now jobless again. I contacted a local organization that helps out people with various ailments and disabilities; I'm finally at that point. Hopefully they can find me a job I can actually do. Even if the pay sucks (which it no doubt will) it'll be something.

Historic Chat Control Vote in the EU Parliament: MEPs Vote to End Untargeted Mass Scanning of Private Chats

In a sensational turn of events in the fight against Chat Control, a majority in the European Parliament voted today to end the untargeted mass scanning of private communications. In doing so, the Parliament firmly rejected the error-prone and unconstitutional surveillance practices of recent years.

A quotation from Marcus Aurelius

O man! as a citizen thou hast lived, and conversed in this great city the world. Whether just for so many years, or no, what is it unto thee? Thou hast lived (thou mayest be sure) as long as the laws and orders of the city required; which may be the common comfort of all.

Do you remember your first favorite book?

My first real favorite: the fairy-tale The Golden Ball.
Today I looked up the author and discovered he’s still alive: a scholar, professor, and author of academic works on totalitarianism, information policy, and hybrid wars. I may never read those. But I will absolutely reread the first book I ever loved.

There’s something very moving about smart, busy, serious people who still choose to write for children.

I'm losing my job today. I missed another day over a severe migraine; the migraine messed up my sleep so I haven't had any tonight. I gave it my best shot, I just can't pick up and put down seventy pound hunks of metal every 2-3 minutes for 8-10 hours a day any more.

Oak Beauty Moth (Biston strataria)

This species overwinters underground as a pupa, with the adults emerging in early spring. Freshly emerged moths, such as the one in this photo taken last year, are often found resting near the base of trees. Despite its name, it is not restricted to oak trees.
