Alder catkins at #CoateWater in #Swindon yesterday. Glad I saw these, as there were very few birds. Possibly the good weather after a long period of rain, meaning lots of people around, had scared the birds off. #WildflowerHour #Wiltshire #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography
Day 24 of the 2024 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar. Of course we end with Common Darter, often the latest-flying of our common species, well into October and sometimes November. This one at #CoateWater, #Swindon, in late August. #Wiltshire #DragonflyAdventCalendar #invertebrates #ukwildlife #photography
If it's #WildflowerHour I probably have a photo of a Smooth Sow-thistle. Not least because there's a rather large one growing in a planter in my front yard which sowed itself uninvited but very welcome. But this one was at #CoateWater. #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers
Yarrow is something that''s easy to walk past, but it really does repay a closer look. This is another image from #CoateWater in #Swindon earlier in the week. The tiny individual flowers are more complex than you might assume. #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #plantscience #photography #WildflowerHour
It's 8pm in the UK so it must be #WildflowerHour. This is my favourite from this week - Ragwort at #CoateWater in #Swindon. #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #plantscience #photography
There's been a Black Swan at #CoateWater for quite a while now. Escaped from someone's wildfowl collection somewhere, but it's been hanging around with the Mute Swans so long now it just thinks it's one of them. #Swindon #wildlife #wildlifephotography
