I'm looking to improve my understanding of the #cooperative movement and particularly my awareness of governance, rules and participation. So I have a book. Hopefully it will help me be a better member.
Any other recommendations of 'books / resources to be a better coop member' appreciated!
I know so many indie or hobby musicians and all of them are building home studios so they can record whenever the fancy takes them, so they're all buying basically the same equipment individually, most slowly over time because they can't afford it.
Seems like prime co-op territory. Anyone want to start a DIY recording studio?
We could have one central person with a garage they're willing to sacrifice so that we don't have to pay much rent, then everybody else pitches in whatever equipment they already have and then the membership capital is used to do acoustic treatment and we'd already have a pretty good start. Expand into permanent studio space later once you have enough capital in the co-op.
On March 2nd, 2026, cooperative educator and “recovering farmer” @emi and I visited Heather Pritchard at her home on Fraser Common Cooperative Farm, near Aldergrove, British Columbia. After a brief tour of the farm, twenty acres on the foothills above the Fraser River Valley, and a conversation with fellow farm co-op member David Catzell, we sat down for lunch at Heather’s kitchen table and spoke for over an hour...Over the course of the conversation, Heather mentioned many cooperative organizations and key figures in the cooperative movement in British Columbia. ~@Matt_Noyes

On March 2nd, 2026, cooperative educator and “recovering farmer” Emi Do and I visited Heather Pritchard at her home on Fraser Common Cooperative Farm, near Aldergrove, British Columbia. After a brief tour of the farm, twenty acres on the foothills above the Fraser River Valley, and a conversation with fellow farm co-op member David Catzell, we sat down for lunch at Heather’s kitchen table and spoke for over an hour. The following is a lightly edited version of her reflections.
This is a great episode from "More Perfect Union" on how the co-op model can help bring back more control to employees and communities. The examples in the video are from the States, but the problems are universal and the solutions can be adapted just about anywhere.

We are open source, cooperatively-run, community-led and in the process of joining the social web. We're also working collaboratively with others in the space towards different modes of decentralisation, going against enshittification and one-size-fits-all approaches.
If you'd like to support our work and help allocate more resources towards these things, there are several ways to do so at the link below. Thank you! 💪🐦⬛
