The oldest surviving #ClipperShip, the #CityOfAdelaide, was launched in England on #ThisDayInHistory in 1864. After a long career in commercial service it was a Royal Navy training ship. Her damaged hull was shipped to Australia in 2014 and is being restored in her namesake port.

Iron-hulled #ClipperShip #RMSTayleur sank on her maiden voyage, #ThisDayInHistory in 1854. Because the metal in the hull affected the compass, the crew thought they were headed south, but were instead going east and rammed #LambayIsland off #Dublin. Just 280 of over 650 survived.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1869, the #ClipperShip #CuttySark was launched in #Scotland. Built for the fast tea trade to Asia, then moved to the wool trade with Australia, she was one of the fastest sailing ships, and is one of only two clipper ships to survive into the 21st century.
