Side-Quest heute: die #CuttySark. Das Schiff ist auf Stahlträgern in einem Trockendock aufgebockt- so kann man drunter her laufen (oder im Museumscafé Scones essen). Gute Gelegenheit, sich den Beschlag der Hülle mit Muntz-Metal genauer anzuschauen, der vor Würmern und Seepocken schützen sollte. Der Rest des Schiffes ist ziemlich leer, aber wundervoll restauriert. Deckhöhe und Kojenlänge hätten aber verhindert, dass ich auf dem Schiff angeheuert hätte. 😄 #LondonAdmiral26

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1869, the #ClipperShip #CuttySark was launched in #Scotland. Built for the fast tea trade to Asia, then moved to the wool trade with Australia, she was one of the fastest sailing ships, and is one of only two clipper ships to survive into the 21st century.

Ausflug mit dem Boot rüber nach Greenwich, in das maritime Herz Londons: zur Cutty Sark, zum Sir John Franklin Expedition Memorial, zum Titanic Memorial Garden und ins National Maritime Museum (das ich nach dem kürzlichen Besuch im Maritimen Museum in Hamburg aber tatsächlich etwas underwhelming fand). Alles bei feinstem Londoner Novemberwetter.

Sie war eines der letzten – und schnellsten – #Segelschiffe, die gebaut wurden (1869). Seit 1954 ist sie ein #Museumsschiff in Greenwich. // I prefer my #ships on land, so here's the Cutty Sark in #Greenwich. I have very happy memories of this #ship, because I lived within walking distance for a time. 🥲 Cutty Sark is a #clipper ship, built in 1869 as one of the last – and fastest – sailing ships.
