Mass coral death at Ningaloo Reef

A fresh survey of eight sites along WA's Ningaloo Reef has revealed more than 60 per cent of corals have died.

Record water temperatures caused widespread bleaching last summer.

Of the 1,600 corals counted in March [last year], only 600 were still alive come late October.

Homes perch along a landslide in the hilltop town of Niscemi on the Italian island of Sicily. About 1,500 people have so far been evacuated from their homes because of the landslide, which began to show signs of movement on Sunday before developing a 2.5 mile-long front. The chasm continues to widen, raising fears it could swallow the town’s historic centre.

Children in the Uummannaq settlement carve words into the thinning sea ice to describe the climate changes they are witnessing. Here are some of the terms they use:
Isippoq:
Falling through the sea ice.
Sikuliarpoq:
Going to the fast ice (ice attached to the coastline).
Imarorpoq:
The sea ice disappears.
