Antonelli “calls” Sinner: “Seeing him in Formula 1? In a two-seater, it could be done.”

“In a two-seater, you could take a ride.” Kimi Antonelli, Italian Formula 1 driver for Mercedes and winner of the recent Chinese Grand Prix, “calls out” Jannik Sinner for F1. The 19-year-old was video-called by Fiorello during today’s broadcast of “La pennicanza” on Radio2 after a previous day’s gag involving an imitation of Antonelli. “The most tense moment? The start, but even the last laps always seem like the longest in the world,” said Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who brought Italy back to the top of Formula 1’s podium after 20 years since Giancarlo Fisichella’s victory in March 2006.

Many compliments were received, some even unexpected for the young Bolognese driver: “The compliments I didn’t expect? Those from Lewis (Hamilton, ndr), he was truly thrilled for me,” said Antonelli. Then, a few words also for friend Jannik Sinner, who complimented him immediately after the triumph: “He’s stronger behind the wheel or I am at tennis? My backhand is awful, my forehand is more or less there, but I know Jannik also trains in go-karts! Seeing him one day in an F1 car? Difficult, but in a two-seater, you could take a ride.” In closing, a prediction about the Rome–Bologna European Derby: “I hope for Bologna’s victory: I say 1-0 for us, but may the best one win,” Antonelli concluded.

It’s nice to count myself as a Formula 1 fan again after what feels like years of racing mediocrity. The first two races of 2026 show the sport is back and exciting as ever! Lots of overtaking and not just at the back of the pack. The battle between Hamilton, Leclerc and Russell was fantastic to watch. Of course seeing a rookie not only take pole but win the race was fantastic as well. As an Audi fan it’s fun to see them back on track too!
