The 19th book of the Chief Inspector Gamache Series, The Grey Wolf, doesn't come out until October 29th, 2024!

I'm going to have a hard time waiting for that one especially since I've run out Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books!

The series makes the townspeople into undeveloped but vaguely antagonistic meat-puppets, the town into a creepy-feeling void, and only VERY vaguely suggests anything amiss in the Sûreté.

I really really wanted to like this, and despite its many shortcomings I'll probably still see it through, but it's a big disappointment

There's a First Nations story added, which is fine, but the bread and butter of the series isn't the mysteries, it's the endearing, and endearingly complicated, residents of Three Pines (the town in which many of the books are set), and the extremely dark, complex, political machinations within Gamache's Sûreté de Quebéc.

"Three Pines" is based on Louise Penny's "Chief Inspector Gamache" series of mysteries. The writing is not up to Ms Penny's standards. It reminds me of the AppleTV+ "Foundation" in that it takes character names, basic plotting, and some situations, and takes them someplace the origin material never went and never would have gone.

We've been watching the new Amazon Prime series "Three Pines." Based as it is on a favorite book-series, I'd looked forward to seeing it. After 4 episodes, though, I'm sorry to say that despite star Alfred Molina's best efforts, it's just not good.
