My #ChicoState colleagues have argued in Inside Higher Ed that #assessment of student learning is broken, largely due to #AI. And the response to this existential crisis ought to be the responsibility of #universities and #colleges, not individual #academic departments and especially not individual #faculty.

When the #ChicoState chapter of the California Faculty Association (#CFA_United) goes on #strike this coming week (Jan 22-26), we'll be holding daily, noon-time "encuentros" (rallies), with open-mics to talk about #issues. A march/action will follow!

Members of #ChicoState's #CFA union & others mourned the Death of Higher Education, complete with bagpipes playing a funeral dirge.

When death comes it may be sudden. But often it's approach is seen years ahead: the diagnosis of a deadly illness, compounded injuries, decline, atrophy, & neglect. At some point we must look down at the near-lifeless body, covered in bruises & lacerations, and a make a choice: Death by a thousand cuts? Or fight back?

The #union votes to authorize a strike Oct 21.

My employer, #ChicoState has released a report based on its "campus climate" survey. There's quite a few telling items in it, representative of widespread frustration across the #CaliforniaStateUniversity system, which has culminated in the collective bargaining stalemate with the #CaliforniaFacultyAssociation and administrators.

The survey was collected from April 27 through May 15, 2023, which resulted in a 41% response rate for faculty.
