My earliest recollections of #SCOTUS rulings date to the mid 1960s, along with both family and classroom discussions of rulings such as Brown vs Board of Education and Loving vs Virginia.

I never dreamed that #SCOTUS would provide cover for a #WannabeDIctator. Silly me, I sort of beleived what I was taught about #ChecksAndBalance. That was before #MitchMcConnel set the stage for the behavior described below (with a nod to #Biden and his supporting role in the appointment of #ClarenceThomas). #sigh

The umpire who picked a side: John Roberts and the death of rule of law in America

Everyone who might have to deal with the consequences of a Trump decision should probably bookmark this article or print it out and keep a physical copy.

@[email protected] Compared to his 1.0, certainly not. Plus he doesn't have to worry about re-election (unless he really aspires to Putin's & Xi's political longevity...), so devious acts like cutting dubious deals (read corrupt) that would enrich but sully his "reputation" no longer constraints the orange turd? And, indeed, now 2.0 seems to act as if SCOTUS and Congress are under his charge too, doesn't he? Also, let's not forget his emboldened billionaire "minders"...

Republicans grabbed the Senate, but Democrats could still take the House—and no matter what happens, they have a duty to fight Trump with everything they have.

It is true that the #US mainstream media have very much lost their legitimacy as the Fourth Estate.

However, there are foreign media that do a superb job. One of them is #TheEconomist, which maintains a bureau in the capital and has its own research arm, e.g. modeling (US) elections.

In the intro of this week's #USpol podcast, #ChecksAndBalance, the 3 #US journalists agree that #Biden's chances of being re-eleclected have shrunk considerably...

@JoshuaHolland

In this vein, I strongly recommend @TheEconomist's #ChecksAndBalance #podcast:

"What do #statehouses tell us about the future of the #RepublicanParty?

Our weekly podcast on democracy in America. This week, what state-level debates explain about the Republican agenda"

BTW, I do not use the official app on #Android, #Sonnet works better and can be used for all my pods. 😀
