Roma, 13 mag. (Adnkronos Salute) - “La PrEP long acting con cabotegravir ha finalmente ottenuto la rimborsabilità. Ora possiamo offrire gratuitamente alle persone negative, ma ad alto rischio di contrarre l'infezione da Hiv, questo strumento che ha dimostrato, in fase registrativa, di ridurre drasticamente il rischio di nuove infezioni”. Così Antonella Castagna, direttore di Malattie infettive dell'Irccs ospedale San Raffaele e professoressa di Malattie infettive all'università Vita-Salute San Raffaele di Milano, intervenendo all'incontro ‘Oltre la cronicità del quotidiano', organizzato oggi a Milano da ViiV Healthcare in occasione dell'arrivo di cabotegravir iniettabile a lunga durata d'azione e in compresse per la profilassi pre-esposizione (preexposure prophylaxis-PrEP) e ridurre il rischio di infezione da Hiv
“In Italia ancora oggi abbiamo più di 2mila nuove infezioni l'anno – sottolinea Castagna – Per questo dobbiamo agire con un approccio integrato per ridurle. Questo è l'obiettivo generale”. Per approccio integrato si intende “lo screening, l'accesso al test rapido e gratuito e la possibilità di mettere subito in terapia le persone positive - spiega l'esperta - Alla PrEP orale, che prevede una compressa quotidiana o on demand, oggi si associa la possibilità di utilizzare cabotegravir: uno strumento efficace che favorisce la qualità di vita, poiché consiste in un'iniezione intramuscolare da effettuare ogni due mesi”.

Rome, May 13 (Adnkronos Salute) – “Long-acting PrEP with cabotegravir has finally obtained reimbursement. Now we can offer free of charge to people who are negative but at high risk of contracting HIV, this tool that has, in the registration phase, demonstrated a drastic reduction in the risk of new infections.” So says Antonella Castagna, Director of Infectious Diseases at the Irccs San Raffaele Hospital and Professor of Infectious Diseases at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, speaking at the ‘Beyond the Chronicity of Everyday Life’ meeting, organized today in Milan by ViiV Healthcare on the arrival of injectable cabotegravir long-acting duration and in tablets for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and reduce the risk of HIV infection.
“In Italy today we still have more than 2,000 new infections per year – Castagna emphasizes – Therefore, we must act with an integrated approach to reduce them. This is the overall goal.” An integrated approach refers to “screening, access to rapid and free testing and the possibility of immediately starting therapy for positive people – the expert explains – In addition to the oral PrEP, which involves taking a daily tablet or on demand, today there is the possibility of using cabotegravir: an effective tool that promotes quality of life, as it consists of an intramuscular injection to be administered every two months.”
