Quote of the day, 11 September: St. Teresa of Avila

This is the authorization for Sister María de Jesús to make her profession. I grant it with great pleasure. May the blessing of the Lord de rore coeli et de pinguedine terrae be granted her.

Saint Teresa of Avila

Letter 263 to Sister María de Jesús López Rivas, Toledo
Avila, August (?) 1578

Note: This text is taken either from a note or a fragment from a letter. María de Jesús (Blessed Mary of Jesus) made her profession on 8 September 1578. The blessing prayer of St. Teresa refers to a blessing given by Isaac to Jacob: “God give thee the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, abundance of corn and wine” (Gen 27:28).

Quote of the day, 6 September: Père Jacques

Carmel is a community of human beings who reveal God to other human beings. There should be a Carmel in every city, and then there would be no need of works. One would see God through these human beings who live for him and him alone.

A person does not withdraw to Carmel because of weariness, or to know tranquility, or to live a mediocre life, or to flee the cares of keeping a home and family, or to have a more comfortable existence.

One comes here because she is athirst for God, because she desires to find God and to reveal God to the whole world.

Quote of the day, 1 September: St. Teresa Margaret

Love can compass everything.

St. Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Teresa Margaret knew from experience that love made all things bearable.

If, in the middle of a life humanly impossible she remained calm and smiling, it was because an interior flame was consuming her, a flame that obliterated all suffering in its presence, a flame that served as a remedy to her.

The Saint was heroic in the gift of herself simply because she was mystically consumed by love.
