#HappyBiirthday to Marie-Anne Lagimodière (August 15th, 1780 to December 14th 1875), a French-Canadian woman noted as both the grandmother of Louis Riel, and as the first woman of European descent to travel to and settle in what is now Western Canada. After marrying Jean-Baptiste Lagimodière, they travelled 2,200 km by canoe from Montreal to the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in present-day Winnipeg
