The irony is that the web being turned into a very cursed application platform (instead of basically just a wiki, which is what it was envisioned as) has helped people escape the prison of windows compatibility requirements.
P.S. Modern MediaWiki markup is way more complicated than the first version(s) of HTML.
Wiki formats were supposed to be either simple (like Markdown), or stupidly simple, like the very first wiki: https://wiki.c2.com/?FrontPage
(In essence, NO markup, #CamelCased words become links. That's basically it. XD )
