And I did get to hike one of those trails again! (Turns out the other one was closed anyway. Not that anyone bothered to mention that as I, say, registered for the camp near it.)

The perfect way to celebrate Earth Day is to launch into a 40 mile, 3 day backpack after not doing any bigger hikes for months, right? Muscles claimed tiredness, but not much sore.

Early season hiking in Humboldt Redwoods State Park contains the danger of arriving at a fallen log across the trail so large you can't even see over it. Twice. There's a real bumper crop of poison oak coming in.

Thinking about a short backpack in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, so here's some trail that I wouldn't mind walking again for #footpathFriday.

The first three are from the River Trail: https://valhikes.blogspot.com/2021/10/river-trail.html
The last is from Johnson Camp Trail, my way down from Grasshopper Fire Lookout: https://valhikes.blogspot.com/2018/11/grasshopper-mountain-and-johnson-camp.html

(South Fork Eel) River Trail

Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Looking for a little autumnal color along the edge of the Eel River and just taking in the generally evergreen forest.

Out to Little River State Beach to have a look around. There's quite a lot of beach as well as sand dunes and, of course, the river, to keep one entertained. I found racing bubbles and some first birds!

Me'tsko River and Beach and Dunes

Little River State Beach. Romping over dunes and sand and stopping by the side of the river to explore the world it creates.
