@greyor if you want to restrict yourself to a controller, then controls for some games are indeed a bit of an issue, especially with for instance function keys, or needing the alphanumeric keyboard for inputs such as names.

I have yet to try #higan (or the new #byuu I guess?) for #MSX emulation, as I'm very used to #openMSX, especially with its reverse and replay options for creating gameplay recordings. :)
