Granted, the king of Xin is more intelligent, yet he's so much Groo the Wanderer I suspect someone in production was closet reading Sergio Aragonés. Also, I'm subconsciously bracing myself for a call for cheese dip.

Hmmmm... This guy has light grey/blue eyes, and is covered in coins. What _could_ be the inspiration behind? It's a true mystery, but let's call him Mammon for now - the god famously worshipped in Silent Movie by Mel Brooks. (And kind of the antithesis to the Chinese God of Wealth.)
I _could_ crack a joke about this envoy's all markers for Eeeevul, like his dark clothes, his exessive billowing of C-drama land's patented Bad To The Bone smoke, and his pet vulture. But...
IRL politicians (that are normal good-enough people) have to handle Known Horrible Entities all the time. And they have to pretend these KHEs are decent, despite all evidence to the contrary. So this trope is not as unlikely as it seems.
According to MyDramaList this is _not_ an Ed Guo drama. I'm... a bit shocked, but it is true that C-drama land often produces visually stunning pieces, so I shouldn't be surprised. So far, and I'm only 4+ minutes in, I've seen so many stunning props and awesome costumes my brain screeching 😅. I'll return tomorrow, when I can start earlier to make time for long comments.
