On 14 February 2026 Burak would have been 36 years old.

On his birthday, we - friends, family, supporters and activists - will come together at the memorial site to lay flowers and remember Burak together.

Burak has not been able to celebrate his birthday since 5 April 2012, when he was murdered at the age of 22.

The murder of Burak Bektaş and the attempted murder of four of his friends have still not been solved.

We show that Burak will not be forgotten. His laughter, his zest for life and the happiness that Burak meant for his family and many friends will remain alive.

Since the summer of 2022, there has been a parliamentary committee of enquiry (PUA) to uncover why the many right-wing, racist acts of the Neukölln complex have not been solved.

The murders of Burak Bektaş and Luke Holland were also topics of the PUA.

We have long fought for a parliamentary committee of enquiry to find out why the murder and so many extreme right-wing offences in Neukölln have not been solved and to increase the pressure for clarification. This parliamentary committee of enquiry has been in existence since summer 2022. However, the results so far have been anything but satisfactory:

A conspicuous number of witnesses from authorities "cannot remember" relevant facts or have not been authorised to testify. The presence of the AfD on the panel is an imposition and a security problem for those affected. The murder of Burak has not yet been dealt with by the Parliamentary Investigation Committee. We will continue to observe and critically monitor the work of the committee.

It recently became public knowledge that 387 cases of right-wing extremist offences had not been dealt with at the LKA Berlin.

The head of the police department who is now under investigation was also the homicide investigator in the Burak Bektaş case.

"Was the motive racism?" - we will continue to ask until there is clarification.

On 14.2.2024 Burak would have been 34 years old. On his birthday, we - friends, family, supporters and activists - will come together at the memorial site. We will lay flowers and commemorate Burak together. We will show that Burak will not be forgotten.

Burak has not been able to celebrate his birthday since 5 April 2012. He was murdered on the street in Neukölln at the age of 22. The murder of Burak Bektaş and the attempted murder of two of his friends have still not been solved.

For almost twelve years, the family and friends have been fighting for clarification and against forgetting. We have been asking for almost twelve years: Was the motive racism?
