👛 The true experience of Mallorca starts with independence. 💁🏼‍♂️

👑 Alcudia's Old Town is one of the best-preserved walled medieval cities in the whole Balearics, and the entry fee is exactly nothing. The 14th-century fortifications still stand at full height. The limestone side streets are narrow enough that you can sometimes touch both walls at the same time. And those picture-perfect window shutters? Every photographer who has been to an old European town knows exactly what I'm talking about. 🪟

2️⃣Two things to put on your radar while you wander:

🚶🏼‍♂️ Walk in through the main gate first, so you feel the actual scale of the walls before anything else. Then slow down in the side streets off the main square, where the shutters and the stone create the contrast that makes every shot. Late afternoon, make your way to Sant Jaume church and time it so you can catch the last of the golden-hour light on the walls. 🌄

🚗 We drove up from Palma with a rental car, which is honestly the move for Mallorca and, really, any trip. Having your own set of wheels means you can stop whenever something catches your eye on the way, and parking near the old town walls is easy. The TIB 302 bus from Palma is always an option if you're going car-free, but I'd look into it before committing since I can't personally vouch for the schedule. Either way, once you're inside the walls, everything is on foot. 👟

Save this if Mallorca is already in your 2026 plans. And drop your current itinerary in the comments. I'll tell you if anythings missing. 👇🏼

Smart Packing Hacks: How to save space and avoid baggage fees

With summer holidays in full swing, travellers across Swansea Bay and beyond are looking for ways to avoid hefty baggage fees and airport stress. Whether you’re jetting off with a budget airline or planning a weekend city break, packing smart can save you time, money and hassle.

Lifestyle experts at WinstonsBeds.com have shared their top tips for making the most of your hand luggage — from rolling clothes to using shoes as storage. Here’s how to pack like a pro and keep your holiday budget focused on fun, not fees.

✈️ Choose the right bag

Check your airline’s hand luggage size and weight limits before you start packing. Invest in a lightweight cabin bag and a digital luggage scale to avoid surprises at the airport.

🧳 Use packing cubes

Packing cubes help you organise and compress your clothes, making it easier to fit more into your case. They also keep outfits grouped and make unpacking a breeze.

👕 Roll, don’t fold

Rolling clothes instead of folding them saves space and reduces wrinkles. It’s especially effective for soft fabrics like t-shirts, dresses and swimwear.

💧 Sort your liquids early

Transfer toiletries into travel-sized bottles and store them in a clear plastic bag for easy access at security. Keep them separate from clothes to avoid leaks.

👗 Build a capsule wardrobe

Choose neutral colours and versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched. Aim for outfits that work for sightseeing, beach days and evening meals.

💄 Pack multi-tasking makeup

Opt for makeup items that do double duty — like lip-and-cheek tints or foundation with SPF. Travel-sized samples are ideal for short trips.

👟 Use shoes for storage

Stuff socks, sunglasses or small accessories inside your shoes to save space and protect fragile items. Wrap shoes in a shower cap to keep dirt off your clothes.

💍 Keep jewellery tangle-free

Thread necklaces through drinking straws and store earrings or rings in small pots or pill boxes. It keeps everything neat and easy to find.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Share with travel companions

Coordinate with friends or family to share items like plug adaptors, chargers and toiletries. It cuts down on duplication and frees up space.

🏖️ Check what’s provided

Before you pack, check if your accommodation offers hairdryers, towels or beach gear. Leaving these out can make a big difference to your luggage weight.

Packing light doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort — it means travelling smarter. With these tips, you’ll skip the queues, dodge the fees, and arrive ready to enjoy your break.
