The men we have with us who used to pass here in spring say they never saw so much snow as there is this year. The ice is yet as it was in winter in some places. "Fine weather. Left the Portage #BoatEncampment between 9 and 10 am, and having travelled with a swift current all day encamped at half before 6 about 5 miles below the Dalles des Morts. Killed a fine fat Bear today.

"We remained here #BoatEncampment till the 10th, when Mr. Heron, Chief Trader, made his appearance from Fort Colvile with two boats. Then ordering back the horses to Klyne's House #Jasper we embarked on the far famed Columbia, which runs here with tremendous velocity.
