"Join us for a weekly bird walk at Gilsland Farm, led by #MaineAudubon’s Staff Naturalist #DougHitchcox and others. Meet in the parking lot, in front of the Visitor Center, where we’ll begin a slow walk around the property to look and listen for birds using Gilsland’s diverse habitats. Free, no registration required.

The walk typically covers between 1 to 2 miles (1.5 – 3 km). Waterproof shoes are recommended as the paths can be damp with dew in the mornings and icy when frozen. Please bring your binoculars, but we do have extra pairs if you need them, just ask Doug when you arrive.

A bird walk on another grey day in Helsinki. I had low expectations, but it actually turned out alright.

Song thrushes have joined the choir in the woods. Yep, they are skilled singers – one of my favorites. I checked up on the local goshawk pair. The female had started incubating eggs, and I found the male nearby pruning its feathers. Suddenly it noticed a hooded crow flying overhead. The hawk stared at it with murderous intent for a moment and flew after the crow.

Then I walked to the coast and spotted a Eurasian wryneck in a grove. It is not a particularly rare bird in Finland, but I don't think I have ever seen it before. I hope it stays there so I can try taking a better photo. Finally a lesser spotted woodpecker surprised me by appearing right next to me while I was walking home. It did not mind me, the juicy grubs hiding in the bark were more interesting.

En #BaladeOiseaux, ça chante et bouge de partout, le soleil me chauffe bien le dos, le fossé coule avec un petit son agréable et les épines blanches (aubépines) embaument l'air.

Et à côté de ça t'as les bourgeois qui veulent tout remplacer par des champs de monocultures empoisonnés ou par des carrefours markets.

Y a du monde ajouter dans le tas de compost...

On a #BirdWalk, there's singing and movement everywhere, the sun warms my back, the ditch flows with a pleasant sound and the white thorns (hawthorns) perfume the air.

And then there are the rich who want to replace everything with poisonous monocultures or market hubs.

There's a lot of people to add to the compost heap...
