I don't think I ever posted about this here...

One of my recent #bookbinding project this (otherwise very non-bookbind-y) #Binderary was this little album for my #TabletopWargaming paper minis.

Individual pages are heavier sheets of paper, folded and glued to make large pockets (for unit cards and such) to which were then glued smaller pieces of paper, to a side, to make the pockets for the minis.

Two pages were then combined into folios with strips of glued bookcloth. Two of those "made folios" were then sewed on a zig-zag folded strip of bookcloth, endpapers attached to the outer edges of the zig-zag and the whole thing glued into a hardcover case with a soft, rounded bookcloth spine.

(The idea of this very improvised construction is to have a flexible spine/back that can shift and flex to accommodate the added thickness of multiple sheets of cardboard as minis get added, while still closing to protect the inside.)

So far, I'm very happy with it. Even with only two folios it can hold enough minis for 2-5 warbands complete with their stats! With another folio or two it would hold some fold-flat paper terrain too. For a non-prototype version I'd make the pockets smaller/shallower and maybe switch the material for something thinner. (Maybe parchment paper?)

Didn't have the time for #binderary, sadly, so here's my one and probably only book:

Just a very simple notebook, bound out of regular printing paper. Zero fanciness, but very pleasant to use, just a touch under A6 in final paper size.

First success of this #Binderary: finished a book I started LAST February!

Sewn-board binding with medium-weight watercolour paper with queer angelic figures printed on. Kind of a watercoloring book.

Originally I had planned the cover to be a watercolour painting as well, but yesterday I said fuck that and just used some #marbling experiments I'd made.

("Perfect is the enemy of done." and all that.)

Merry #Binderary to all who celebrate.

Last February I bound ... 20+ books in one month. I aimed for one book every workday, and it was ... challenging. I learned a lot, I had lots of fun, but I'm not doing that again.

This Binderary, I have the following plans:

- Get the WIPs down to zero. (From ~3-5 half-finished textblock I have lying around.)

- Do something with the leather I bought in Leiden (Not my first leather binding, but only my second.)

- Try my hand at #k118-style binding. (Look it up, it's cool.)

- Only start a book if I can learn something new from it. (New structure, etc.)

- Connect more with local bookbinders, amateur and professional.

We'll see how that all works out.

Finally added a gallery for my #bookbinding stuff at my website:

For now it's still mostly #Binderary stuff, but I'll add some newer books later™.

I’ve always loved books and have always wanted to learn how to make them myself. For a few years I’ve worked at a small copy-/printshop and there we had gluebinding machines and wirebinding machines a

@Sylvhem I am! Have been for a long time time but started more seriously handbinding a year or so ago? (What is even time?), with a peak in the books-bound curve around February this year when I did #Binderary .

Decided that the functional binding of "On Downtime and Demesnes" I made for #Binderary was a bit boring without a cover so I made it a dust jacket. Pretty pleased with how it turned out.

#BookBinding

Aaaand that's #Binderary for me.

(OK, I actually have one little book left to cover, but I didn't feel like watercolour today, so that one will have to wait.)

I was aiming for "badly photoshopped romance novel cover" and I think hit the mark here...
