qwant news | Microsoft's head of AI says white‑collar jobs could vanish "within the next 12 to 18 months" — as automation bots replace you

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

Microsoft’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, warned that generative‑AI advances could fully automate white‑collar professions—lawyers, accountants, project managers, marketers and even developers—within the next 12‑18 months, arguing that rapid growth in computational power will enable AI models to outperform humans on virtually all professional tasks. Citing examples from Nvidia, Amazon Web Services and comments from Bill Gates and Anthropic’s CEO, he said the trend is already causing job losses and could slash up to half of entry‑level white‑collar positions, leaving only specialists in fields such as biology, energy or manufacturing relatively insulated. While acknowledging AI’s potential as a productivity tool, Suleyman emphasized that the looming automation wave poses a serious threat to job security and will force workers and companies to adapt quickly.

The Daily Beast Latest Articles | Ex-Boyfriend Reveals Ghislaine Maxwell’s Greedy Demand by Josh Fiallo

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

Ted Waitt, the billionaire founder of Gateway, testified before the House Oversight Committee that he ended his seven‑year relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell in 2010 by giving her a $7.2 million “palimony” payment—plus monthly allowance while they dated—to help her maintain the lavish lifestyle she was accustomed to, noting she was unhappy with the amount and wanted more. He said he never received any written agreement, had no knowledge of her involvement with Jeffrey Epstein until after their split, and now regrets ever associating with her, especially given her later conviction for sex‑trafficking crimes. Waitt’s testimony also highlighted his prior wealth, their overlapping timelines with Epstein, and past social connections to figures such as Bill Clinton, while he affirmed he gave no further funds after the breakup.

“The AI doesn’t understand anything, it’s not a oracle. Ethics is not an algorithm”: the inventor of the microchip Federico Faggin at the Salone del Libro.

We have to wake up and understand that artificial intelligence understands nothing; we understand, and to use it well, we must understand it better than the AI itself. From the Turin Book Fair, this is the warning of the father of the microchip, Federico Faggin. Physicist, inventor, and entrepreneur, born in 1941. Bill Gates said of him: “Without Faggin, Silicon Valley would be nothing more than a valley.” And today, at 84 years old, he continues to reflect on the role of new technologies in society. “At this historical moment, the future is uncertain because with the intrusion of AI into our lives, we must understand – not how to defend ourselves, but how to use it well – he explains to Fattoquotidiano.it – artificial intelligence understands nothing; we must understand what she is saying, and understand that, since she understands nothing, she can say foolish things too.” Faggin’s problem is that AI is today presented as “an oracle.”

But the problem is deeper. “What we call AI, for us, is not intelligence – Faggin continues – intelligence for us is the creation of new meanings within ourselves, but the computer cannot do this because it has no interiority. We do, and therefore we are conscious, consciousness allows us to know the meaning of symbols through inner experience, made up of feelings and emotions.” And then there is the question of ethics. “The typical AI worker says that we must improve the algorithm of ethics, but ethics is not an algorithm” warns the physicist. One of the major themes is that of regulation. “The American government does not have laws regulating it, and it is left to individuals to manage – comments Faggin – and this is a problem because those who make these products want to sell them, therefore they present them with a very optimistic light, when in reality these products, if not used well by those who know how to use them, can create great problems.”
