Alexander Maclaren, Scottish Baptist, on Luke 16:19-31, story of Lazarus. If the Rich Man in parable gave crumbs, the sin of his neglect of the sufferer at his gate didn’t keep him out of hell.

Do we expect sufferers around us to be satisfied, and therefore hush up, that we gave them a crumb? Do you see modern preachers promise hell for everything but that in Mt 25 & Lk 16?

How can you be nice to others today?

my #motto for #year2023 was #bechallenged. and boy, did i not get those!? but even having to face that great health challenge, in last year i’ve also had some of the greatest moments as far as i can recall.

anyway, now two weeks into the year… the time is here to reveal my motto for #year2024: something sweeter and warmer and softer…

have i already begun losing my feel for the #newyear?… by the end of today i got into a conversation with a colleague of mine. a couple of things later he said, if he remembered correctly, that i don’t cook. then he spent the next 25 mins passionately persuading me to try #cooking, even only making simple dishes. and emphasizing the #joy around the activity. so he’s a man of action. cooking or not, this reminds me of wanting to #bechallenged, that i must start trying #somethingnew now. #year2023

my #motto for #year2023? #bechallenged.

days before last year's end, it became clear this was going to be this phase: to #challengemyself—and to be challenged—in order to get to the next place.

inspired by an open conversation i heard last early spring, one said she took on a particular #challenge, not because she'd thought about doing it, but mainly to know what she's capable of & whether she's got what it takes. love how she puts the focus on #self & not the #job when looking at a challenge.
