Some of the team have been holidaying in Wales this year... and before visiting the seaside have become users of the Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales Bathing Water app https://environment.data.gov.uk/wales/bathing-waters/profiles/ that we designed, built and run

Bathing Waters - Epimorphics

Natural Resource Wales (NRW) and the Environment Agency (EA) have a key roles ensure that bathing waters have good water quality in Wales and England respectively. Bathing Waters are designated beaches (or inland swimming spots) assessed by the EA and NRW in line with the relevant legislation and regulations. Water samples are taken at designated points weekly, during the bathing water season. In order to make the results of the Bathing Water Quality sampling available to the many individuals and organisations who make use of it, starting in 2010, we worked with EA and later NRW to design and build these services. We currently also run the service for NRW.

#bathingwaters quality matters and under #Brexit the UK's is appalling. This is the reality of getting rid of so-called "EU red tape".

Associated with the Natural Resources Wales Bathing Waters service is a rich Open Data

Bathing Waters API - Epimorphics

The Natural Resources Wales Bathing Water Quality Data service was developed with the specific needs of Wales and dual language capabilities built in. The NRW service and the data API all are able to respond to language requests supporting both NRW’s and other Wales user needs. We worked with NRW to design, build and run this service.

In highlighting the Natural Resources Wales on their Bathing Waters service we described some of the rich history of the service in this post back in 2016:

This article is well worth reading. Putting raw #sewage into the sea affects sea air. This is worrying given the recent large increase in sewage going into the sea off Britain. It would be good to have grounds for believing that the government was acting promptly over this; but earlier this week I received a letter from my MP in response to my concerns about sewage in UK #bathingwaters. The years for achieving partial remediation is 2035 and for full remediation 2050.
