@diazona Thanks -- I really want to watch (these increasingly hateful*) people, but maybe I should just crash... #TheCatGirl 🐆 #Monsterdon

* #BarbaraShelley's character is DA BOMB thō

The hideous ruffles on Leonora's robe makes me feel like #BarbaraShelley is wearing a really unfortunate sofa cover from the 80s... whether the 1880s or the 1980s, who can say? #TheCatGirl 🐆 #Monsterdon
Actually, I am JUDGING #BarbaraShelley's Leonora POORLY for marrying that douche-canoe #TheCatGirl 🐆 #Monsterdon

Shadow of the Cat (1961) is sort of a Hammer film. Stars Barbara Shelley. There's a mysterious disappearance, and a cat out for revenge. A hybrid of 1960s Hammer psychological thriller and gothic horror. Unusual and worth seeing.

The first and best adaptation of #JohnWyndham's #TheMidwichCuckoos has an exceptional cast, including the odd coupling of #GeorgeSanders and #BarbaraShelley, and the unnervingly detached #MartinStephens as their son. Director #WolfRilla captures stark scenes of horror as stoic British men are driven to suicide, en route to a bittersweet climactic "triumph." #OnThisDay in 1960, MGM released influential pedophobic chiller #VillageoftheDamned in cinemas across New York and L.A.

@d4doome Greeat movie! Feels almost like the turning point for Hammer fully embracing the whole late 60s / early 70s exploitation film mold, imo. Need to give this a re-watch soon!

Terence Fisher's Dracula: Prince of Darkness was the first Hammer film I ever saw so obviously I have a definite soft spot for it.

For a 1966 Hammer film it's surprisingly disturbing. In this movie vampirism is all about female sexuality.

And of course, Christopher Lee as Dracula.

Cat Girl is a 1957 British horror film clearly inspired by the 1942 Val Lewton classic Cat People. Cat Girl fails to live up to its predecessor but having said that it’s still definitely worth a look, mostly for the performance of star Barbara Shelley.
