The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973)

The Satanic Rites of Dracula is a 1973 Hammer film, written by Don Houghton and directed by Alan Gibson. It stars Christopher Lee, making his final appearance as Dracula, and Peter Cushing as Professor Van Helsing. Set in 1970s London, the plot resolves around the secret service investigating apparent satanic rituals at an English country house, with the revelation that prominent members of society are somehow involved. From here, the story takes some rather bizarre turns and ends up being […]

A distinct lack of vengeance, or anything else that might be exciting. For Hammer completists only. My ★★ review of The Vengeance of She (1968) on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/dAEY6B #She #VengeanceOfShe #HammerFilms
A ★★ review of The Vengeance of She (1968)

While Hammer Films' She was an diverting enough of an adventure film, it's not the kind of thing that was screaming for a sequel. And it definitely didn't a sequel that subs out the charismatic but dubbed-over Ursula Andress for a lesser version. Poor Olinka Bérová is giving it her all, but her all isn't much as she plays Carol, a woman who may or may not be possessed by the first film's Ayesha as she is drawn to Kuma to be reincarnated as Ayesha for the sake of Kallikrates (John Richardson, back from the first film). Why is Carol

Technically no capital-v Vikings in this film, but that's the least of its historical license. Still a watchable-enough time. My ★★★ review of The Viking Queen (1967) on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/d2I5pF #HammerFilms #TheVIkingQueen #Letterboxd
A ★★★ review of The Viking Queen (1967)

A rip-roaring little bit of Hammer adventure spectacle, The Viking Queen makes up for what it lacks in historical accuracy with very solid production elements and some decent performances, all things considered. This tale, loosely adapted from the real-life queen Boudica, sees the Iceni tribe in ancient Briton chafe against the yoke of Roman rule. Of course, there must be a romance – in this case, Queen Salina (a gorgeous Carita, defiant enough for the role) and Roman governor Justinian (a perfectly serviceable Don Murray). There are traitorous Romans like Andrew Keir's odious Octavian and Donald Houston absolutely devouring the

Hammer's The Evil of Frankenstein is the only film financed by Universal Pictures. This gave Hammer the chance to beef up Peter Cushing's lab sets as well as feature a creature that is slightly more reminiscent in shape and size to the Boris Karloff template.
