Bocairent is built on the rock and of rock. First floors of many buildings are actually caves carved into the bedrock. Walls of city buildings nestle on the rock; upstairs rooms are connected by narrow staircases to the caves below.

Steps carved in the rock the city is built on. For nearly a thousand years, these steps have witnessed the footprints of Berbers, and later, the Christian conquerors. This place feels like a patchwork made of stones: each era contributed enhancements of its time. The city breathes history. This is one of the places where you can practically palpate the time in one of its most physical forms: stone.
