Ken Neden was recognized for his 50 years as a volunteer with Arrowsmith Search and Rescue and presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal by Gord Johns, MP for Courtenay-Alberni, during a surprise celebration with fellow volunteers and supporters on Sept. 8.
At first light on Wednesday, a team of water and rope techs with Squamish Search and Rescue set out.
It was a long hike in through challenging terrain, and the rescue team said they could have reached the area quicker and safer with a helicopter.
But that request was denied by Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR), which is the provincial ministry that helps coordinate Search and Rescue dispatch.

Squamish Search and Rescue
Shortly after 1:00 PM today, our team responded to a call for two climbers who were injured by a rockfall.
While they were initially assisted by a nearby group of climbers, SSAR deployed a HETS technician just above their location.
After a short period of time, our HETS team successfully long-lined the injured party out.

We hope you enjoy reading some remarkable stories in this report as well as see the value that our 3,400+ amazing volunteer GSAR members bring to the province through some very insightful statistics.
