For anyone with solar and net metering in British Columbia, BC Hydro is changing the terms.

We will no longer get 1 for 1 kwh credits. Energy pushed back into the the grid will be at a fixed rate of 10 cents/kwh and will be calculated on a to billing cycle. You will then need to buy that back at whatever rate tier you are on when the sun goes down.

This is bad news for residential solar and it reduces the savings and increases the payback period.

I think they are trying to get us to buy home batteries which there is actually a $5000 rebate for, but it is still a big investment.

What I hate most is that this just complicates things.

BC Hydro has announced it will add 8500 gigawatt hours per year from solar and wind over two years. They will come online by 2033 and boost the capacity by 13%. Most of it with better than 50% First Nations ownership.

Site C was over $10 Billion and produces 5100GWh annually.

Also by comparison, there is no Pipeline project and no First Nations have bought Transmountain.
