@Snoro And BBC weather forecast seems to think unusually mild weather is rather lovely for us all, instead of a symptom of the climate change that is causing today's deadly storms. So annoying, I wish they would do better.

@manchestereveningnews.co.uk @europesays today's BBC weather warning about Storm Bram ended with a cheery "at least it's mild!" Do they not know that the mild weather is part of the same climate crisis that's causing the storms? The met office must know this mild weather is not a benign bit of good luck. And should make sure we know it too. These storms cause chaos ... mild weather is not good, BBC!

@BBCRD Would love to see some of your shows, iPlayer, BBC News, Weather... Just anything else come from your Mastodon instance.

You are testing the grounds for the Fediverse but seemly not putting much into it, there are already some bots that post your BBC articles on here. So obviously there are people looking for your content.

I understand that the teams to do with those projects need to be contacted and will be the ones to maintain and post up but it will be amazing to see more than the 4 accounts on the instance after 2+ years of you testing the ground.

I suspect that that's advice that has a pedigree from the 1980s when they switched from calling it "centigrade" to calling it "Celsius". I remember the minor fuss when the pedants pointed out that it's not Celsius's original scale.

Quick check of the local timeline: No-one here is posting using Fahrenheit at all; and I wouldn't be surprised if it is nowadays as dead as £sd currency and fuel in gallons. BBC editors should just let it go. (-:

@Wenstone @kityates

@losttourist 's explanation makes sense. Simon King probably *has* dropped the Fahrenheit entirely, if xe ever used it at all; and the editor (Jamie Whitehead according to the byline) put it it in after the fact.

I notice that there are very few Fahrenheit figures on any other of King's posts, which lends credence to the idea that King is providing the originals in Celsius only and there's some spotty conversion being done by someone else.
