Athletic Progression centers their strongly percussive fusion sound on their solid breakbeat work and powerful grooves paired with melodic flourishes.

Athletic Progression is a Danish and Tanzanian trio based in Aaarhus, Denmark that brings contemporary sensibilities into their jazz by combining break beat based grooves with some relaxed club accents on the keyboards. Jonathan Ludvigssen's drumming provides strong drum'n bass and hip-hop coloring at the center of the band's music, playing off of Justo Gambula's powerful engine on the bass and Jonas Cook's unflashy but effective flourishes on the keyboards. They also happen to have piano-driven ballads backed by subdued grooves in the back, but that is really not their calling card. Instead, it is a more typical of their sound to be looking for a middle spot between Flying Lotus and Richard Spaven (or Yussef Dayes) with a fair amount of J DIlla type wobbly feel injected into their work.
