AGI - La Spagna sostiene la sospensione completa dell'accordo Ue-Israele. Lo ha dichiarato il ministro degli Esteri spagnolo, José Manuel Albares Bueno, al suo arrivo al Consiglio Esteri Ue, a Lussemburgo.
"Insieme a Slovenia e Irlanda, abbiamo richiesto che la sospensione dell'Accordo di associazione tra l'Unione europea e Israele venga discussa e dibattuta oggi, sulla base dell'articolo 2, che stabilisce che l'Ue può avere una relazione con Israele solo basata sul rispetto dei diritti umani. Vediamo che, da quando la Spagna e altri Paesi hanno avanzato la stessa richiesta, Israele non ha fatto altro che intensificare e far degenerare la spirale di violenza e guerra e che la situazione è peggiorata", ha aggiunto il ministro spagnolo.
Il richiamo al rispetto dei diritti umani
"Dobbiamo dire chiaramente a Israele che deve cambiare rotta, che la guerra non può essere l'unico modo in cui si relaziona con i suoi vicini mediorientali. E la domanda che porrò a tutti gli altri Paesi dell'Unione europea è: cos'altro deve accadere perché l'Ue sia scossa dal modo in cui Israele gestisce le sue relazioni con gli altri Stati mediorientali? Cos'altro deve accadere perché l'Unione europea sia scossa dalle sistematiche violazioni del diritto internazionale e dei diritti umani da parte di Israele. È giunto il momento - ha concluso il ministro spagnolo - di inviare un segnale forte: non possiamo mantenere il rapporto che abbiamo avuto finora, con un Consiglio di associazione, se Israele non cambia la sua politica".

Spain supports the complete suspension of the EU-Israel agreement. This was stated by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno upon his arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
“Together with Slovenia and Ireland, we have requested that the suspension of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel be discussed and debated today, based on Article 2, which states that the EU can only have a relationship with Israel based on respect for human rights. We see that, since Spain and other countries have made the same request, Israel has done nothing but intensify and escalate the spiral of violence and war, and that the situation has worsened,” added the Spanish minister.
The call for respect for human rights
“We must clearly tell Israel that it must change course, that war cannot be the only way it relates to its neighbors in the Middle East. And the question I will pose to all other countries in the European Union is: what else must happen for the EU to be shaken by the way Israel manages its relations with other Middle Eastern states? What else must happen for the European Union to be shaken by the systematic violations of international law and human rights by Israel. It is time – concluded the Spanish minister – to send a strong signal: we cannot maintain the relationship we have had until now, with an Association Council, if Israel does not change its policy.”
