Asian Triangulation in an Anti-Black World ft. Sudip Battacharya

Some characters have their personalities toned down (like his step dad) and others ramped up (like Thalia). There were a lot of changes made in how old the actors representing the characters are too, compared to the movie. We have a lot of racially diverse re-casting, but mostly in a 1:1 swap without retconning the character backgrounds to factor in race, despite plenty other liberties to the plot that were taken. My favorite recasting is for Grover, whose actor, Aryan Simhadri, is Telugu Indian. There are other explicit attempts to add more diverse main characters in the literary cannon, but they don't come up until the later books. I still remember the thrill I felt as a kid when Riordan added lore for China, even if it may not have been done with best practice.

Minnesotans 'shaken' as ICE goes door-to-door asking Americans to rat out Asian neighbors

ICE agents were reportedly going door to door in Minnesota asking people to identify where their Asian neighbors live, according to reports Wednesday. You can tell a lot about a #culture by what's available to purchase in its #grocery #markets.

As an #AsianAmerican #Vermonter who doesn't live in #ChittendenCounty, I often despair when I go grocery #shopping.

#Vermont is filled with high quality #food options, but not ones that reflect #diversity or #affordability especially well.

Diversity is a product of demographics. #LetsGrowBrattleboro #LetsGrowVermont

Many Asians carry extra pressure from inherited cultural upbringing - I know from experience. We’re often taught self-resiliency, but that can turn into unnecessary isolation instead of seeking help. Rising #AsianAmerican youth suicide rates make this impossible to ignore. #MentalHealthMatters

More Asian young people are dying by suicide — and some subgroups are faring worse than others

Suicide rates among young Asian Americans have sharply increased over the last few years — and a few subgroups seem to be particularly vulnerable.

"#America has no #chiefrabbi, but it is a testament to the international recognition #AngelaBuchdahl commands that a foreign-born terrorist would be under the impression that she is the person who fills this role.

For the past decade, #Buchdahl has served as #seniorrabbi at #CentralSynagogue in Midtown #Manhattan, one of the largest #Reform #congregations in the world, serving more than 3,000 households. The first woman to hold this position in the 175-year history of the #congregation, Buchdahl is also the first #AsianAmerican to be ordained as a #rabbi and among a select group of distinguished #US #rabbis to have been invited to light #Hanukkah candles at the #WhiteHouse.

Forget about "chief rabbi of America," this child of an inter-#religious and #interracial marriage hardly seemed rabbi material at all, as noted in her recently released #memoir "Heart of a Stranger: An Unlikely Rabbi's Story of Faith, Identity, and Belonging" (Viking)."
