Throwback Tuesday

Since our last project in Finland has now been completed, I will be sharing images from past events that took place as part of our project series PRESERVED at irregular intervals from now on.

Apfelblüte / Apple Blossom

This intervention also took place during our Artist Residency in the city of Monheim am Rhein (Germany). PRESERVED // Schwemmland / Monheim am Rhein was realized in 2021 and explored how the land on which the city of Monheim was founded had developed over centuries of interaction with human activity. It investigated which plants grew and have been cultivated, which species have shaped the cultural identity of the region, and what traces of them could still be found today. The focus lied on creating a bridge between the past and present.

In the intervention "Apple Blossom" we hand pollination apple trees in the meadow orchards of Haus Bürgel, Monheim am Rhein. After the use of pesticides led to massive insect die-off in parts of China, many fruit orchards there now have to be pollinated by hand. In Germany, this practice still plays a minor role; however, with the ongoing decline of bee populations, it could become a reality here as well.

The project was realized within the frame of Kunst-Camp at Kunstwerkstatt Turmstrasse in Monheim am Rhein.

Vilma Ehnberg and Pauline Michel: Rock Bottom

„Rock Bottom“ is playing with the potential energy of weight and our overflooded minds. We are asking how we can transform states of physical heaviness and our mental load into movement while believing that heaviness can turn into a motor of motion and a source of strength. We are deep diving into our heavy thoughts, rocking and swaying to the beat of our heads.

Both the bands — as impulse generators and movement initiators — and various approaches to audio description will be tested for their potential as an aesthetic of access. What artistic concepts emerge when consent-based, collaborative processes become the foundation of creation?

Open call for artist in residence RESONANZLAB

The Kunstverein Global Forest, Furtwangen University and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences are awarding an artist residency as part of the RESONANZLAB cooperation project.

The RESONANZLAB opens up a creative space for artists to work on site with people in the Lake Constance region and to specifically focus on how they deal with climate change.

How do our own experiences, everyday stories or the omnipresent news from the media influence our view of our changing living environment(s)? Are we more sensitive to changes in nature today? What does it mean for (young) people when we talk about "climate anxiety"? Or, asked more musically and perceptively: can we hear it, transmit it, transform it, this 'basic hum' of uncertainty, of fear for or of the future?

The RESONANZLAB explores artistic strategies and inclusive communication, shared feelings, visions and hopes that may express themselves in language and sound, call and response, echo and vibration: visually, collectively, aurally, on site and in motion.

The aim of the residency is to develop a series of participatory activities for the four-country region of Lake Constance and to present them at various locations.

Requirements:
• A completed degree in the field of fine arts, literature, music, sound art or a related discipline is an advantage, but not mandatory
• There must be a clear connection to working with language and sound
• Willingness to participate in community activities and exchange, as well as a high interest in developing projects in a participatory manner with people in the region
• Knowledge of German is fundamentally required for the residency. We are happy if applicants have additional language skills.

RESONANZLAB is supported by the Wissenschaftsverbund Vierländerregion Bodensee with funds from the Interreg VI Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein program.
