Earlier update on InciWeb: Firefighters have constructed an initial line around much of the Apache Fire. Fire crews will work today to improve on the work done over that last two days by seeking out and extinguishing smoldering vegetation near the fire’s edge. The percentage of containment will increase as fire managers are confident that established lines will hold. The fire has not grown over the past 48 hours despite higher winds in the area.

LosPadresNF: #ApacheFire 1551 acres. Firefighters made great progress yesterday catching the fire as it pushed southeast. Little to no fire spread overnight. Today, crews will be securing line in steep terrain where the fire is currently hung up. Potential for roll-out is the primary concern

I'm not familiar with the term 'roll-out'

So I've found it helpful to look south on Google Earth at the #ApacheFire

Best I can tell, the active fire seems to be on or approaching the ridge south of apache canyon road. That's why it was such a bummer when the fire got past the road the other day and why it made a fast run. heavier vegetation and upslope.

It is likely to move slower absent crazy winds on the downslope. The next really good chance to stop it is corral canyon where there are large low vegetation fields.

If it gets past there, the next chance is lockwood valley road. If it gets past there, the fuel loads and terrain are such that it will race up the mountain.

The daytime footage in this Los Padres NF video of the #ApacheFire gives more perspective. The same hill is clearly visible.

I really wish they would just post all the drone(?) footage instead of editing it into an amateur air force recruiting ad style clip set to music. Or hell, just give a video briefing that informs people. don't throw out your back trying to pat it so hard, forestry. lol.

Fascinating video of a helicopter water drop purported to be on the #ApacheFire last night.

Shows how effective those water drops can be. Also shows some strategy. most of active fire line appears to be backing down slopes. The portion they choose to hit with water was heading for a hill and would have raced up that ridge if they didn't hit it.
