Trump administration to drop suit against Idaho amid strict abortion ban
The Trump administration is signaling it will move to let Idaho enforce its strict abortion ban, even in the treatment of pregnant women suffering medical emergencies. The state’s largest hospital system said Tuesday it could be forced to airlift women out of state for care if the federal lawsuit is dismissed. That convinced a judge to quickly grant a temporary court order allowing doctors to keep providing abortions if needed in emergencies. The suit filed by the Biden administration argued that federal health care law required doctors to perform abortions in emergency situations presenting a serious risks a patient’s health or her life. Idaho has said it does have exceptions for abortions to save a pregnant patient's life.
