@simon_brooke Initially I really liked your suggestion of #AngusRobertson as an ambassador. It's a generous way of acknowkeging that he does have real skills, whilst lscking imagination and radicalism.
But the more I think about the idea, the less I like it.
Robertson is v v deeply entrenched in the European centrist blob, the network of thinktanks and forums and conferences which keep the EU firmly neoliberal. I wouldn't trust him to abandon that agenda

He denied this but note the weasel words. “A meeting had been held” in the last few days. I’m sure there was one but who was there? What was discussed? It could have been any meeting. Then he said, EU relations are reserved to Westminster [so suck it up, Scotland].
The Colonial Secretary should take his tasteful wardrobe and push off to London where he belongs.
