Did you get a chance to watch the #AndroidDevSummit video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goFpG25uoc8) or read the associated documentation page (https://developer.android.com/guide/navigation/navigation-type-safety)?

Those talk a lot more about how to separate individual screens (which shouldn't know what navigation system you're using) from the type safe, multi-module code that links them together.
