What's wrong with this picture? A brief, mild, peaceful protest at #AmericanGeophysicalUnion annual meeting sounding the alarm on the climate crisis has lead to a severe reaction. One of the scientists was fired from #OakRidgeNatLabs, their abstracts were removed from meeting, they were expelled from meeting and #professionalmisconduct charges filed. Punishment does not fit the crime. Why? What #powerful_interests does the AGU represent?

Outcry as scientists sanctioned for climate protest

Researchers have asked the American Geophysical Union to reverse actions it took against scientists who demonstrated at a December meeting.

Artist: Rita Brugger Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that people derive from the natural environment, such as clean water, fertile soil, pollination of crops, and natural climate regulation. These services are important because they support human well-being, food security, and the maintenance of biodiversity. Borma et al. (2022) examine the relationship between ecosystem services and biodiversity with a focus on the tropical humid and subhumid forests of South America. We asked the lead author to give an overview of this relationship, how humans affect it, and what unresolved questions remain.

University of Arkansas based M. D. Covington and collaborators write "to advance beyond site-specific understanding and develop a more general conceptual framework for the role of carbonates in the #CriticalZone we need integrative studies spanning both the carbonate-silicate spectrum and a range of carbonate settings."
