Starry Bee obtained!

As of this morning I have completed the task of crafting 18 ATM Stars! Which means I can now automate ATM Star Shard generation!

What a trip this has been. My Starry Bee is happily working away in my simulated bee farm and is generating ATM Star Shards already.

And now I need to convince myself that I don't need to do that "But... why?" quest. Just need to craft an ATM Star Block 9x for that one. Let's do some quick spreadsheet math to see how many Shards that will be...

And I thought the emeralds were insane? And also 21 billion Patrick Stars.

Nope. Not going to happen. I'll let the server run for a little longer but there's no way I'm grinding out this many.

Let's find another mod pack to play through!

It has come down to emeralds.

Just 60k~ish to go. And then I can finally craft the final ATM Star. I'm going to idle it out for a while tonight since I don't have to work tomorrow so I'm going to try to finish up before bed. Otherwise it will be waiting for me tomorrow morning. And then I turn my 2nd Patrick Bee into a Starry Bee and start collecting automated ATM Star Shards.

I've started to turn down unnecessary parts of my essence farm because that's been the biggest load on the server. I'll turn down even more once the star is done. Not turning down everything. Just the parts that I scaled up to produce crazy amounts of resources per day.

I expect I'll run the server on ATM8 for a little while longer. But, since no one in the community has asked to be added to the whitelist there really isn't a reason to not explore other mod packs.

It's been quite a trip. Expect a post with a few more screen shots soon.

Reached 13 ATM Stars last night. I’m producing over 1 Star per day at this point. Just 5 more to go. I have created all the manual crafty things I will need for the remaining stars. It’s just waiting for emeralds and nether stars at this point.

I’m also starting to think about what should be torn down once the Starry Bee is going. Much of the giant farm in the bottom level of my base is only focused on Star materials and is contributing heavily to the instability of the server.

It’s also possible that I run things for a few days then shut it down to make room for a new mod pack.

9 ATM Stars! Which means I can finally get the Patrick Bee producing the Patrick Star piece!

I'm at a pace of about 1 star per day. The factor of that flapping between emerald production and nether star production. It almost feels unbalanced how many of those it takes to complete each star compared to all the other resources.

First ATM Star was crafted on Monday. The second was crafted on Thursday. And since Monday I've made good progress on automating and productionizing many of the components. I'm down to just a few that require manual work and some of those I'm just leaving manual and farming everything I'll need for 18 stars.

However, the more pressing issue is that the server is now crashing on a daily basis. Looking at the last few crash reports I think the Mekanism fluid pipes are the cause. It is pretty well known in the ATM community that Mekanism pipes can cause lag on large servers. Since I'm running on a repurposed Chromebox with 8GB of RAM it doesn't surprise me that's what is going on.

So today's task is replacing as many of the low volume/high distribution fluid pipes with Pipez pipes. Hopefully that will give the server enough life span to craft a few more stars.

At this point it's down to when I lose interest in continuing this endeavor. I have the possibility of other servers to play on. Or I could move over to Stardew Valley. Or I could invest in a hardware upgrade and move the server to new hardware or progress to ATM9. Will see what feels right.

Success! My very first ATM Star crafted!

The final tipping point was adding resonant integral components to all my phytogenic insolators in my "super farm".

This means I now move on to automating as much of the star creation as possible so I can aim for 18 stars. This is the number required to get the Starry Bee working and farming star shards.

The Spirit mod soul pedestal is apparently glitched to where it will only work at coordinates 0,0. Height doesn’t seem to matter. Spent some frustrating time this evening figuring that out after a fortunate web search.

Anyway I now have a Spirit Bee doing its thing.

I’ll post a more interesting update with picture soon. Hit a huge milestone on stream tonight!

I now realize why I was having such a difficult time with Mystical Agriculture. And now that it’s fixed I’m quickly on my way to completing all the items from MA that I need.

tl;dr - Refined Storage automation doesn’t play nice and was recrafting items that can be used hundreds of times.

Yeah. The crystals used to craft higher tiers of essence can be used hundreds or thousands of times. Hence why they’re so expensive. They keep that number in the item metadata. Which automation matches against. But automation isn’t smart enough to realize that number can be anything. I probably could have caught that but this is the first time I can recall this being an issue.

So, I’ve implemented a workaround using RFTools. It’s a little slower but surprisingly elegant. I was quickly able to craft the Master Crystal (unlimited uses!) and now it’s SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to craft the end game materials! I should have those done sometime tomorrow.

After this it’s only a few items left and then I can craft the star! And then I suppose it’s time to start looking into star 2 and beyond?

Anyway I feel silly for not catching this sooner. But it’s all good now at least.

OMG. There's bees for every level of Mystical Agriculture essence. I feel so silly for not realizing this until now. Suddenly the path to Creative Essence is much MUCH easier.

37 of 55 down. The biggest change is automating the production of the outer row. So now I just grab and place every so often.

That Mystical Agriculture wall is looking bigger by the day. I did some test crafts to get numbers. Multiple millions of inferium essence and prosperity shards needed. Who balanced this mod? My poor bees are working as hard as they can and I’m just over 10k shards tonight. (I use them quite regularly though.)

ElementalCraft is coming along nicely. Sources are in the base and I’m working on how to automate the more complex pieces.

That Mystical Agriculture wall may break me though. I’d hate to fall short on that but I just don’t see a non-grinding way to get there.
