I find it funny that my first three games beaten milestones on Retroachievements.org are all Aleste games.
That being said, is Power Strike 2 for Master System really an Aleste game? It's made by Compile and features similar mechanics to other games in the series.
The reason why I ask is this is because Power Strike 2 is just really bizarre, and with its 1930s setting, and somewhat steampunky vibes.
That being said, Robo Aleste also exists, and that has a feudal Japanese setting, with mecha.
This does give me an opportunity, however, to recommend people check out the Aleste games, especially if you like SHMUPs as they are a really solid set of games. Not that I need excuses to rave about Super Aleste or GG Aleste 3.

Specifically, to gush about GG Aleste 3 on the #GameGear
Modern games on old hardware are a fascinating subject, and I should really should dive deeper into it.
Anyway. For #VGMWednesday, I present the track from stage 2 of GG Aleste 3,

This is probably my favourite track from this particular game, but the OST as a whole is pretty good. It really shows off the sound compabilities that the GameGear had.
If you like #shmups, you really should check out GG Aleste 3 and Aleste as a series, especially the GG games and Super Aleste on the SNES.
GG3, for me, was a tough but rewarding playthrough. It served up a decent challenge, but I am not a competent shmup player.
I haven't seen trains this spicy since I played Fire Shark
And with that, a repeat 1CC of GG Aleste II: Lance Bird (a.k.a. Power Strike II in Europe*) on Normal, this time with a new personal best time of 19'37"27, and 31st place on the Switch leaderboards. First time playing in months, allowing me to approach some troublesome parts with a fresh mindset.
If you're like me and play with slowdown off, this is surprisingly short and snappy for a shmup, especially by Compile standards.
* which is confusing because there's another Aleste-series game called Power Strike II that was released in the same year also in Europe, but on the Master System and it's a different game.
