As my dad adjusts to life in long-term care, I’m trying to slow my thoughts, take deep breaths, and focus only on what’s in front of me today.

He is safe. He is cared for by skilled people. And he is loved beyond measure. I may not be able to fix everything, but I’ve done the best I can — and that matters.

Mom is still holding on and is currently in Comfortable Care at the hospital. We are just spending time with her and each other. I want to thank anyone who has reached out, and for all the comments, they have been a real comfort during this difficult time. #AgingParent @Dementia #HeartAttack

After losing my grandfather, my grandmother, and my Dad, I could not even begin to imagine the absolute devastation of losing my Mom. I'm just at a complete loss right now that her end is so near. #AgingParent #Dementia #HeartAttack #Hospice

If anyone wants to explain to me why we gather as a family around a loved one who is dying, I'd appreciate it. I just find it very difficult and extremely odd. She has a DNR, and I get that, but there has to be a better way to do this. #AgingParent #Dementia #HeartAttack #DNR

So it looks like she's going to be in the hospital for "Comfortable Care" until she is released back to the nursing home with Hospice Care. I guess any sort of recovery isn't possible. I'm not ready for this. #AgingParent #Dementia #Hospice

Good morning. I was beyond touched to get so many sweet messages. My mom was taken off the C-PAP last night at 10:30pm, and has slept thru the night. We are all going to go see her later in the morning. #ThursdaySelfie #Coffee #AgingParent #Dementia

Mom was conscious for a while, and talking until they gave her some morphine to calm her down, she wasn't a fan of the CPAP. She is now being moved to the ICU. Her oxygen level and blood pressure have both improved. #AgingParent #ER #Dementia
