The first walk on the dangerous side of the esker for the year.

(It's steep, full of loose round rocks that rolls easily, and out sight and sound from the trodden paths. I don't walk there when I can't see where I'm putting my feet due to snow.)

I tried to take a photo walk on the esker without Alea the Black Cat, to be able to get reference shots without having to concentrate on a cat. This is the first pic.

Heh. Today's adventure on the esker took a litteral rain check. Alea the Black Cat spent 25+ minutes on the porch, looking moodily at the wet stuff falling from the sky. As I waited the country bus stopped by its stop downhill, barked out its location, and drove away.

Nothing strange, save for the pair of deers that came trundling from the stop a few seconds later. We all commute, I guess, but where do they keep their bus passes?

No adventures on the esker today. The weather service have issued a yellow warning for torrential downpour and thunder. She's not happy about it, so this should probably be considered an angry nap.

Edit: she just stretched and made a happy sigh in her sleep ❤️

Remember when I said we had moss as thick as the one in Journey To The West (from 1986, probably ep15). Here it is, cat for scale. That green lump to the lower left is a fallen log, slowly being devoured by the forest. The moss... it takes it all.

Today the esker wasn't a good hiking place according to Alea the Black Cat. There was much sniffing the air, little walking, and then she lead me back to the house. As usual I have no idea why. Maybe the fox made some extra rounds checking out the fresh laundry nearby? Only the cat knows.

Looks like Alea the Black Cat has figured me out. Usually we take an Epic (for a cat) hike around the esker, passing many convenient (for a cat) fallen logs and interesting bushes. Today we took a leisurly stroll around her nearest territory, and when my alloted hiking time was over she led me back to the house.

Or maybe she was just a bit mellow and felt the oncoming thunderstorm.

The dry part of the esker is strikingly different to the lush one. Not sure why it's dry - it's not the entire side so rain shadow is not the answer (the esker is too small for that anyway). Could be manmade since pines are planted there, but similar plantations are thriving not even 100m away. Or if it's an old shingle beach with zero water retention. One thing is sure though; it has aggressively neon moss.

Alea has a beef with a neighbouring cat. For a while they fought so often I joked they were a xianxia hero and a demon lord isekaied into housecats*. Their arguments have died down enough I can risk putting a tick collar on Alea. But they're not friends, I often catch her being deliberatly obnoxious at the border of her territory. Today she flexed by sitting on A Very Good Log.
