Assam CM meets EU Ambassador to India, discusses opportunities for collaboration

New Delhi, March 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday met European Union Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin at the latter's official residence in the national capital.

During the interaction, Sarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the EU Ambassador to India, Delphin and through him to other Heads of the Mission of Member countries for extending their support to the recently concluded Advantage Assam Summit 2.0 in Guwahati.

The Chief Minister and the EU Ambassador had a fruitful and meaningful discussion on opportunities for collaboration on clean energy, semiconductors, higher education, skill development, and the aromatics and fragrances industry.

According to a statement, the top diplomat told the Chief Minister that the European Union is exploring the possibility of opening an EU Programme Management Office in Guwahati. While welcoming the development, Sarma assured the Assam Government’s full support to it under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Taking to his X handle, Chief Minister Sarma posted, “Today in New Delhi, I conveyed my deepest gratitude to @EUAmbIndia H.E Herve Delphin and also through him, to the other Heads of the Mission of Member countries for their support at #AdvantageAssam2. Had a good discussion on opportunities for collaboration on clean energy, semiconductors, higher education, skill development, and in the aromatics and fragrances industry.” “Glad to learn that the EU is also exploring the possibility of opening an EU Programme Management Office in Guwahati. Assam will fully support it under the guidance of the Union government’s external affairs ministry,” he added.

The recently held investment summit -- Advantage Assam 2.0, attracted investments worth at least Rs 4.5 lakh crore.

“Sectors like hydrocarbons, which is our forte, and mines and minerals have attracted the most investment. We are now focusing on making Assam a developed industrial state like it was in 1947. Assam was the first industrial state of the country,” Sarma earlier said.

According to him, the success of the summit highlights Assam's growing potential as an investment hub. “With its abundant natural resources, strategic geographic location, and progressive policies, the state has been steadily working towards establishing itself as a key player in India's industrial landscape. The massive investment influx is expected to boost employment opportunities, infrastructure development, and overall economic growth in the region,” Sarma stated.

बैठक के दौरान, सीएम ने डेल्फिन को धन्यवाद दिया और, उनके माध्यम से, यूरोपीय संघ के सदस्य देशों के प्रमुखों ने गुवाहाटी में हाल ही में संपन्न एडवांटेज असम समिट 2.0 को उनके समर्थन के लिए।

दोनों ने स्वच्छ ऊर्जा, अर्धचालक, उच्च शिक्षा, कौशल विकास और एरोमेटिक्स और सुगंध उद्योग जैसे क्षेत्रों में सहयोग के अवसरों पर चर्चा की।

डेल्फिन ने सीएम को सूचित किया कि यूरोपीय संघ गुवाहाटी में एक यूरोपीय संघ कार्यक्रम प्रबंधन कार्यालय खोलने पर विचार कर रहा है।

सरमा ने विकास का स्वागत किया और विदेश मंत्रालय के तत्वावधान में अपनी सरकार के पूर्ण समर्थन का आश्वासन दिया।

Assam CM holds conference with district commissioners, reviews key schemes

Guwahati, March 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held a conference of district commissioners and reviewed key government schemes.

Taking to X, Sarma wrote: “Just concluded the first ever conference of District Commissioners and Co-District Commissioners. This is an excellent platform to deploy a whole-of-government approach on key flagship initiatives to ensure last mile delivery. Today’s conference comes a day after #AssamBudget2025, wherein I have instructed our administration to implement all budgetary announcements and build on the gains of #AdvantageAssam2.”

In a recent series of deliberations, the Assam government has outlined several crucial focus areas to accelerate development and improve welfare measures across the state.

The meeting emphasised progress in social welfare schemes, housing initiatives, and public health strategies.

Sarma said: “The state administration has been working to enhance financial support for pregnant women in the state's tea gardens. This initiative aims to ensure improved maternal healthcare and address the economic challenges faced by tea garden communities. By providing financial aid, the government seeks to reduce maternal mortality rates and improve overall well-being in these vulnerable sectors.”

The meeting stressed the need to expedite the geo-tagging process under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Geo-tagging ensures transparency and allows real-time monitoring of housing projects. Accelerating this process will help streamline the identification and completion of homes for eligible beneficiaries, ensuring faster access to housing for underprivileged families.

“The state government has prioritised the timely execution of Mission Basundhara 3.0, a flagship initiative aimed at resolving land-related issues. The focus remains on fast-tracking land ownership verification, land record digitization, and related services. This time-bound approach seeks to provide citizens with quicker solutions to their land concerns,” the CM stated.

Meanwhile, to ensure efficient implementation of welfare schemes such as the Orunodoi scheme and the Chief Minister Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the government is adopting streamlined processes.

“Additionally, the distribution of 5 lakh gamosas, a symbol of Assamese pride and tradition, will be conducted in an organized manner to celebrate Assam's cultural heritage,” he stated.

‘Advantage Assam’: State Cabinet expresses gratitude towards PM Modi

Guwahati, March 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Assam government has expressed its sincere gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution towards arranging the investment summit ‘Advantage Assam’ 2.0.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday: “In a cabinet meeting here today, the #AssamCabinet has expressed its sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for his extraordinary efforts to promote our state as an investment destination during #AdvantageAssam2. We have also finalised a mechanism to scrutinise the MoUs signed.”

The recently held investment summit–Advantage Assam 2.0, has attracted investments worth at least Rs 4.5 lakh crore.

Meanwhile, the state cabinet also decided to set up Ratan Tata Electronics City in Jagiroad.

The Cheif Minister mentioned: “In recognition of the unparalleled contribution of the Tata Group and its Chairman Emeritus, Late Shri Ratan Naval Tata (the first Assam Vaibhav awardee) himself, Cabinet has approved the naming of the entire area covered by Assam Semiconductor & Electronics Logistics Park (ASELP), Jagiroad Tata OSAT center, proposed township with the social Infrastructure, as Ratan Tata Electronics City (RTEC), Jagiroad.”

Sarma noted that the semiconductor plants in Gujarat and Assam, alongside upcoming projects in quantum physics and artificial intelligence, would be developed in India.

He stressed that India would provide the skilled workforce needed in these sectors, not only for the nation but also for global demands.

“To prepare for this, I urge the need to equip India’s youth with the necessary skills. The semiconductor project at Jagiroad is progressing rapidly, with production expected to begin by the end of the year,” he said.

Integrated terminal of Guwahati airport to be ready by this year: Assam CM

Guwahati, March 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that the new terminal of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati will be open to the public this year.

He also mentioned that once the new terminal becomes ready for business, it will meet the increasing demand of the flyers in the state.

Taking to X on Sunday, CM Sarma wrote, “The Integrated Terminal of the LGBI Airport will be ready by this year and cater to the ever growing demand of Assam's flyers. In #AdvantageAssam2 exhibition, I reviewed its scaled model and the facilities which will come up at the new airport.”

To recall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the investment summit 'Advantage Assam 2.0', unveiled the design of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati.

A spokesperson of the LGBI airport said that this milestone marks a significant step towards transforming the airport into a world-class aviation hub and a gateway to northeast India. “Inspired by Assam's natural beauty, the new terminal features a unique Bamboo Orchids theme, symbolising biodiversity, strength, and sustainability. The terminal's design seamlessly blends with the landscape, celebrating the region's cultural and natural heritage,” she said.

The official said the use of bamboo and orchids in the design reflects the airport's commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness. Currently under construction, the NITB is designed to manage 13.1 million passengers per annum (MPPA), making it the first airport terminal of its kind in the northeast region of India.

The terminal is expected to be operational in the last quarter of 2025, the spokesperson said.

The NITB at LGBI airport boasts an impressive array of facilities and amenities, many of which would be seen for the first time in the region.

According to the spokesperson of the LGBI airport, the sprawling 140,000 sqm terminal building, capable of handling 13.1 MPPA, is an increase of six times over the design capacity of the existing operational terminal.

During the unveiling of the design of the NITB, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and named after the first Assam Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, the LGBI airport serves as a crucial gateway to the northeastern states, connecting the region to major domestic and international destinations.

Advantage Assam: CM Sarma meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi, Feb 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital regarding the upcoming investment summit -- Advantage Assam.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma wrote, "Today in New Delhi, I had the honour of meeting Home Minister @amitshah Ji to seek his guidance for #AdvantageAssam2."

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister asserted that the state government has been pushing for investor-friendly policies to attract investments, adding that Assam has the best semiconductor policy in the country.

He said, "Assam is aggressively pushing for investor-friendly policies. Our Semiconductor policy is the best in the country -- Over and above the Centre's incentives to semiconductor industries, we are providing 50 per cent additional PLI and all related infrastructure and policy support."

The Chief Minister has been eyeing investments through the upcoming summit -- 'Advantage Assam' that is scheduled to take place on February 25 and 26.

CM Sarma said that this summit is set to bring more investments to the state.

He added that more government jobs and entrepreneurship support will be provided to the people of the state.

The CM has visited South Korea, Japan, and Singapore and he met with top industry players and invited them to invest in Assam.

According to Chief Minister Sarma, the event would highlight the traditional Jhumur dance of the tea tribe clans.

CM Sarma said, "This summit is a platform to showcase Assam's rich traditions to a global audience in addition to attracting investors."

A spectacular Jhumur dance performance with more than 7,500 dancers and artists will be part of the event. It will be an extraordinary show, he added.

The preparations are underway for this cultural event.

The Chief Minister said, "Perfect execution will be ensured by master training workshops, constituency-level sessions, district-level performances, and final rehearsals in Guwahati."

The concert, which is planned for either day of the summit, is anticipated to have a lasting effect on those present.

This action comes after Assam already set a Guinness World Record for the biggest Bihu dancing performance.

Assam CM meets Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister, hold discussion on having deeper ties

Guwahati, Feb 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met the Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan and held discussions on having deeper ties between Assam and Singapore during his two-day visit to the foreign nation.

Taking to X, Sarma said: “It was a delight to meet the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, H.E @VivianBala We spoke on deepening the existing partnership between the State of Assam and the Republic of Singapore under the overall framework of India’s Act East Policy.”

The Chief Minister also held discussions with the top brass of ITE Education Services.

He mentioned: “Had a very good meeting with Mr Suresh Natarajan, the CEO of ITE Education Services and his team. Their vision to elevate technical education and workforce readiness aligns closely with Assam’s goal to develop a large pool of skilled workforce. During my visit, I had the opportunity to understand the quality of faculty and industry-specific laboratories in aerospace, smart manufacturing and electronics. These play a vital role in bridging the gap between industry solutions and graduate expertise.”

“Over the coming months, we will be seeing closer collaboration between Assam Skill University and ITE. We are also exploring ways to leverage their expertise in setting up a World Skill Centre in Assam along with the private sector,” the Chief Minister added.

Earlier in the day, Sarma met the President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam and held discussions regarding the state’s potential to become a major hub for global investments.

The Chief Minister said: “It was a great honour to meet the President of Singapore, H.E @Tharman_S, today. Our discussions covered ongoing collaborative projects, with a special emphasis on Assam’s role as a key pillar in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Partnership. I also shared the fond memories we hold of His Excellency’s visit to Assam in 2022.”

“We deeply appreciate Singapore’s partnership in #AdvantageAssam2 and look forward to strengthening our collaboration in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology,” the CM added.
