Assam to give Rs 342 crore to tea workers: CM Sarma

Guwahati, March 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday that the state government will distribute at least Rs 342 crore to provide one-time assistance to tea workers as a mark of recognition towards their tireless efforts in making tea industry a backbone of the state.

Taking to social media platform X, the CM wrote, "An ode to the industry which was Assam's stepping stone to industrialisation. In #AssamBudget2025, we have sanctioned Rs 342 crore to provide a one-time Samman Rashi of Rs 5,000 to each of the 6.2 lakh Cha Shramiks in Assam as a mark of recognition for their tireless records."

In the recent state Budget, the state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced that Assam will have its own satellite system.

To bolster technological advancement and scientific research in the state, Minister Neog recently announced the state's ambitious plan to launch its own satellite, ASSAMSAT.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to improve communication networks, enhance disaster management capabilities, and support various developmental projects across Assam, the Minister said.

During her Budget presentation, Minister Neog emphasised that ASSAMSAT would be a crucial step towards strengthening the state's digital infrastructure.

The satellite is expected to facilitate improved connectivity in remote areas, enabling better access to telecommunication services, e-governance platforms, and educational resources.

Minister Neog mentioned that the state government will collaborate with prominent space research institutions, including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to develop and launch the satellite.

The project aligns with India's growing focus on regional satellites aimed at empowering states with customised data for development planning.

By venturing into space technology, Assam is positioning itself as a forward-looking state with aspirations to harness scientific advancements for socio-economic growth.

The ASSAMSAT initiative reflects the government's commitment to leveraging modern technology for the benefit of its citizens.

The Chief Minister on Thursday asserted that Assam will have at least four to five satellites to cover the entire state.

According to CM Sarma, the satellites will be low earth orbiting satellites and each of them will focus on different regions.

The Chief Minister said that the array of own satellite system in the state -- ASSAMSAT will have command and control centre in Guwahati.

He added that the ASSAMSAT will be controlled from Guwahati and the centre here will operate Assam's own constellation of satellites.

Assam CM holds conference with district commissioners, reviews key schemes

Guwahati, March 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held a conference of district commissioners and reviewed key government schemes.

Taking to X, Sarma wrote: “Just concluded the first ever conference of District Commissioners and Co-District Commissioners. This is an excellent platform to deploy a whole-of-government approach on key flagship initiatives to ensure last mile delivery. Today’s conference comes a day after #AssamBudget2025, wherein I have instructed our administration to implement all budgetary announcements and build on the gains of #AdvantageAssam2.”

In a recent series of deliberations, the Assam government has outlined several crucial focus areas to accelerate development and improve welfare measures across the state.

The meeting emphasised progress in social welfare schemes, housing initiatives, and public health strategies.

Sarma said: “The state administration has been working to enhance financial support for pregnant women in the state's tea gardens. This initiative aims to ensure improved maternal healthcare and address the economic challenges faced by tea garden communities. By providing financial aid, the government seeks to reduce maternal mortality rates and improve overall well-being in these vulnerable sectors.”

The meeting stressed the need to expedite the geo-tagging process under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Geo-tagging ensures transparency and allows real-time monitoring of housing projects. Accelerating this process will help streamline the identification and completion of homes for eligible beneficiaries, ensuring faster access to housing for underprivileged families.

“The state government has prioritised the timely execution of Mission Basundhara 3.0, a flagship initiative aimed at resolving land-related issues. The focus remains on fast-tracking land ownership verification, land record digitization, and related services. This time-bound approach seeks to provide citizens with quicker solutions to their land concerns,” the CM stated.

Meanwhile, to ensure efficient implementation of welfare schemes such as the Orunodoi scheme and the Chief Minister Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the government is adopting streamlined processes.

“Additionally, the distribution of 5 lakh gamosas, a symbol of Assamese pride and tradition, will be conducted in an organized manner to celebrate Assam's cultural heritage,” he stated.

Assam stands as beacon for women empowerment: CM Sarma

Guwahati, March 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday asserted that Assam has become a beacon of economic empowerment for women, with the state government extending financial assistance to at least 25 lakh women under its flagship scheme.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma wrote, "With several innovative and transformative schemes, Assam stands as a beacon for economic empowerment of women."

"Today I reviewed the roadmap to distribute financial assistance to over 25 lakh women micro entrepreneurs under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. The distribution programme will begin in Behali and then move across the state," he added.

The Chief Minister also said, "Among my other meetings today, we also finalised allocations under #AssamBudget2025. The upcoming Budget will be a major milestone in the state's developmental journey."

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarma took district-specific progress of different aspects of Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan and gave suggestions to address all issues, including completing the backend processes so that Rs 10,000 can be given to the woman beneficiaries under the scheme very soon.

He said that the state government is aiming at empowering the women through this scheme, as the successful implementation would lead to achieving the government's objective of 'Atmanirbhar Nari'.

It may be noted that through Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the state government has envisaged supporting women SHG (Self-Help Groups) to become rural micro-entrepreneurs and facilitate them to earn annual income through financial assistance as grant aid in the form of entrepreneurship fund.

CM Sarma also took note of the preparedness of the district administrations with regard to the early disbursal of flood relief grants through Direct Benefit Transfer.

He asked the District Collectors (DCs) to finalise the dates for formally handing over the financial aid to the flood victims.

The Chief Minister also asked the DCs to decide on the dates after consultation with the Guardian Ministers for handing over the benefits under Anundoram Borooah Cash Award Scheme, bicycle and scooty distribution and microfinance loan waiver scheme.
