- #PayPerPage fails because of cards' 0.30 USD #SwipeFee.
- #Subscription per site (such as a news #paywall) discourages people from reading and citing articles on a site because readers are less willing to buy a month's or year's subscription to yet another site just for one article.
- Federated subscription under #AdultCheck worked for a few years until a magazine publisher sued them out of existence for not policing infringement by members.
- Tax-funded publishing reduces independence from the #StateMedia party line.
- Running a platform as a hobby isn't sustainable, as I've seen recently with #Miraheze and #SoylentNews threatening to close.
