   Many years ago, when A Wrinkle in Time was being rejected by publisher after publisher, I wrote in my journal, “I will rewrite for months or even years for an editor who sees what I am trying to do in this book and wants to make it better and stronger. But I will not, I cannot diminish and mutilate it for an editor who does not understand it and wants to weaken it.”
   Now, the editors who did not understand the book and wanted the problem of evil soft peddled had every right to refuse to publish the book, as I had, sadly, the right and obligation to try to be true to it. If they refused it out of honest conviction, that was honorable. If they refused it for fear of trampling on someone else’s toes, that was, alas, the way of the world.

It's storytelling with capital letters, but I do appreciate the reference-fest in Stranger Things. It made me pick this one out of my bookshelf, it's the norwegian translation of A Wrinkle in Time that I read as a kid. It's printed in 1980, I guess I read it a year or two later. Mrs. Whatsit - A Wrinkle in Time

This was the very first cosplay that I entered into a competition. It was a masquerade with a performance aspect, and as a former performer, I was excited to be up on a stage after so many years. It was nerve-wracking, but I pushed those feelings aside in favor of my excitement for expression and the opportunity to be creative. I ended up placing 2nd in the Novice division and felt so proud of myself for going through with it. I ended up competing a few more times after that, but then the pandemic happened and kind of threw me off course.

I haven't competed in over 5 years now and have been creating less each year. The world has been becoming increasingly scarier, and it's hard to focus on any creative projects when it feels like the world is burning around me.

However, if anything, art and creativity are two of the things that we should continue doing, even in dark times. A dark world without art simply stays a dark world. A dark world with art can evoke inspiration in others and perhaps one day bring us back into the light.

With that being said, maybe its about time I enter another competition? And I have just the character in mind ✨️
